Vive la France!

I'm really excited about our long-planned road trip around France, but seriously, what on earth is going on with the motorways in the UK?

We hadn't been on the road 15minutes when we were down to a crawl on the M65 which was down to one lane. Noted: no road workers in sight.

On to the M6 which was (and is always) awful; down to 50mph through Lancashire, bumper to bumper through Cheshire and stop-start through Staffordshire. Lots of 'smart' signage informing us of delays and obstacles, but nothing to see. Why does traffic go down to a standstill then pick up again for no apparent reason? I would love to know. After a brief stop just outside Rugby, we braved the M11, M25 and Dartford Crossing, both surprisingly light on traffic considering it was rush hour. On to the M20 and then M2 towards Dover, and finally it felt like we were motoring.

Seven and a half hours motoring and we arrived in Sunny Kent. Just time for supper and a quick walk before resting up in preparation for our ferry crossing tomorrow.

Highlight of the day: for the first time ever, a Radio 2 traffic alert was relevant to our journey. Well done R2!
