The School Run

Out of bed and into the shower

Ablutions done, we've got an hour!

Husbands gone - this week on earlies

Wake the boy and then the girlies

Get them washed and get them dressed

Clothes all ready, uniforms pressed

Down for breakfast round the table

Eat and chat, TV disabled

Eggs or cereal, toast and tea

Debate at length but won't agree

Upstairs, clean teeth, find shoes and bags

They dilly-dally, mother nags

PE kit, homework, reading books

The littlest wants his favourite truck

Coats and hats on, scarves and gloves

And out the door with push and shoves

Into car and seat belts on,

Luggage loaded, time is gone

Arrive, spill out, we're just in time

A kiss, a wave, it's five to nine

Back in the car, the school run done

Her own day's work must be begun

A job to do, a role to play

Before another ground-hog day
