Autumn is here: a poem

There is no denying that autumn is here

Despite the birdsong gracing my ear

Despite the soft touch of the rippling breeze and the warmth of the sun as it peeps through the trees

The cows are still grazing and the sky remains blue

But autumn is here, I can feel it, can't you?

It's here in the leaves that are changing their hues

In the harvested fields - and there are other clues:

The lambs are now wearing their wintery coats, there are acorns and berries and conkers to tote

The streams flowing faster, the squirrels are hoarding

Yes autumn is here and the landscape transforming
